Design & Technology | Mr Bird |
Overview
Technology at Christ’s is an inspiring, rigorous and practical faculty of subjects. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts.
Students investigate a range of topics to broaden their understanding of Design & Technology and its place in real world contexts; for example: engineering, nutrition, manufacturing, construction, energy and environment, sustainability and careers.
Facilities
We have four specialist teaching rooms in Technology. Our fully equipped workshop is fitted with both traditional wood and metal work machinery and tools, alongside a more modern digital aided laser cutter and 3D printer. We have a fully fitted teaching kitchen room, and our Textiles and Graphics rooms contain specialist crafts machinery.
Key Stage 3
KS3 Technology lessons in all disciplines are once per fortnight (each) and delivered throughout the year. Each year group and Technology subject completes a separate stand alone project. The Department uses GCSE objectives for consistency of assessment language as students move through the curriculum at KS3. Skills and knowledge are consistently revisited throughout with incremental challenges and control of materials, processes and equipment added.
Key Stage 4
KS4 Students complete an extensive NEA task (AQA set, 50% of GCSE) where individual outcomes are prioritised through continual assessment to develop excellent outcomes. Theory based subject knowledge runs in sequence with the AQA GCSE Design & Technology specification.
